Educational Talent Search Program
Participants must come from a family whose taxable income does not exceed the income level established by the U. S. Department of Education and/or first generation families (i.e. neither parent graduated from college).
The Morehouse College Educational Talent Search Program is funded by the U. S. Department of Education and is designed to assist youth with academic potential. The Program has been funded since 1990 to serve 988 participants annually. Participants must come from a family whose taxable income does not exceed the income level established by the U. S. Department of Education and/or first generation families (i.e. neither parent graduated from college). The Talent Search program identifies and assists individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds who have the potential to succeed in higher education. The program provides academic, career, and financial counseling to its participants and encourages them to graduate from high school and continue on to and complete their postsecondary education. Educational Talent Search publicizes the availability of financial aid and assist participants with the postsecondary application process. Talent Search also encourages persons who have not completed educational programs at the secondary or postsecondary level to enter or reenter and complete postsecondary education. The program also serves military veterans.
Educational Talent Search’s goal is to increase the number of youth from disadvantaged backgrounds who complete high school and enroll in and complete their postsecondary education.
TYPES OF PROJECTS
Projects provide tutorial services, career exploration, aptitude assessments, counseling, mentoring programs, workshops, information on postsecondary institutions; education or counseling services designed to improve the financial and economic literacy of students; guidance on and assistance in secondary school reentry, alternative education programs for secondary school dropouts, entry into general educational development programs or postsecondary education; students from groups that are traditionally underrepresented in postsecondary education, students with disabilities, students who are homeless children and youths, students who are in foster care or are aging out of the foster care system or other disconnected students.
Services provided by the program include:
Academic, financial, career, or personal counseling including advice on entry or re-entry to secondary or postsecondary programs
Career exploration and aptitude assessment
Information on postsecondary education
Exposure to college campuses
Information on student financial assistance
Assistance in completing college admissions, scholarship and financial aid applications
Assistance in preparing for college entrance exams
Special activities for sixth, seventh, and eighth graders
Workshops for the families of participants
Be a U.S. citizen or resident alien;
Be at least eleven years of age and in sixth-twelfth grades
Be low-income, potential first-generation college graduate (neither parent holds a bachelor’s degree);
Attend one of the target middle or senior high schools;
Commit to remain in the program until high school graduation;
Maintain a GPA of 2.5 or higher

You are Eligible If YOU are a STUDENT!
Between the ages of 11 and 27 and have completed the fifth grade. In any given project, two-thirds of the participants must be students who are low-income and potential first-generation college students.
Attend one of the following High Schools:
- Tri-Cities High School (Fulton County)
- North Clayton High School (Clayton County)
- Riverdale High School (Clayton County)
- Drew High School (Clayton County)
- Greenville High School (Meriwether County)
- Manchester High School (Meriwether County)
- Forest Park High School (Clayton County)
Attend one of the following Middle Schools:
- North Clayton Middle School (Clayton County)
- Riverdale Middle School (Clayton County)
- Greenville Middle School (Meriwether County)
- Manchester Middle School(Meriwether County)
Are either potential First Generation college student and/or Low-income.
Are a citizen or permanent resident of the United States.
Have college as a goal during high school.
Plan to attend a college or university after high school graduation and graduate from it.

ACADEMIC YEAR ACTIVITIES
Throughout the school year, Talent Search advisors offer workshops on topics such as: : study skills and test-taking strategies, goal setting and achievement, the college admissions process, as well as financial literacy, student financial aid and scholarship assistance.
The students also receive SAT/ACT test preparation from program staff and volunteers at the target schools. Additionally, college tours and a variety of other activities are offered to expose students to valuable cultural, educational and career-focused information.
SUMMER ACADEMIC YEAR ACTIVITIES
Talent Search sponsors a robotic academy at North Clayton Middle School, designed to motivate and encourage program participants to develop an interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). The robotics team competes in state, regional and national competitions sponsored by Georgia Institute of Technology and Mobile Oil Corporation
